When Strata Information Becomes Stratatorial

We’re all for more, and more, clear, concise and useful strata information being made available to all strata citizens. Hell, that’s why GoStrata Media exist, isn’t aligned with any strata business, group or association, and doesn’t accept advertising or sponsorship of any kind.

And there’s more and more strata information being published than ever before.

But that new strata information is increasingly less, and less, independent.

Wikipedia says that an ADVERTORIAL is an advertisement in the form of editorial content. The term ‘advertorial’ is a blend of the words ‘advertisement’ and ‘editorial’ that Merriam-Webster dates back to 1946.

So, it seems we now have STRATATORIAL because most of what’s being published about Australian strata title is exactly that.

A few of the latest examples I’ve seen [with genuine apologies to the publishers who I know are just pursuing their business interest] include;

• Look Up Strata’s June 2025 NSW Magazine, where virtually every article is from a sponsor, advertiser or business encouraging demand for their market segment.

• Your Strata Property's informal strata committee survey of 745 people which concludes that the kind of strata training and education it offers is what everyone wants.

• The $2,000 buy only the Strata Futures Report, from consultants John Minns and Kate McHugh, about their roundtable workshop to discuss challenges and ideate pathways to resolve the current and emerging issues.

And, there’s plenty more like those.

There are of course a few exceptions in Australian strata information that aren’t Stratatorial, like peer reviewed academic papers and independent statistically credible unsponsored research.

But, most everything else is either paid for by advertisers or sponsors, promotes the goods, services or agenda of a strata business of one kind or another, and/or suffers selection or inherent bias.

We’re kinda sick of reading all that Stratatorial.

And, we assume so are most other strata citizens who deserve better.

So, where’s the truly insightful, interesting and useful strata information coming from next?
