There’s an ever increasing buzz about EVs of all kinds in strata buildings which we’ve highlighted a few times recently.
So, what do strata title sector groups say about them?
The Owners Corporation Networks @OCN is a consumer group that represents NSW residential strata and community title buildings, owners and residents and made submissions to the 2023 NSW Parliamentary inquiry into electric and hybrid vehicle batteries.
What did they say? Here’s a summary.
There’s increasingly politically motivated sensationalist commentary, creating FUD – Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt and barriers to the introduction of electric vehicle charging in apartment buildings.
Most electric vehicle fires do not involve road registered EVs but rather personal mobility devices (PMDs).
OCN supports risk mitigation to manage PDM fires including education and a non-ban by law.
That NSW Fair Trading address the rising incidence of unsafe products in PDM.
That the EVC and NSW Government should declare that EV charging installations and parking locations are not ‘special hazards’.
No additional requirements should be imposed on EV charging installations and parking locations.
You can read the entire OCN’s submission here. It’s detailed with a lot of source material.
