We’re seeing more action and information about complaints and enforcement action by NSW Fair Trading against property agents, including strata managers, as they report via LinkedIn and elsewhere, warning, penalty notices, prosecutions, etc.
It’s part of their renewed vigour and enthusiasm on these issues to try to restore [or at least improve] consumer confidence.
And, in a message to me from the NSW Fair Trading Commissioner, Natasha Mann, she says:
‘NSW Fair Trading is looking to start publishing names in future. Watch this space.’
These are positive steps as demonstrating consistent actions and outcomes by the regulator and naming names will create an environment where property agents are increasingly concerned about the consequences of non compliance [rather than private wrist slapping], the regulator is better scrutinised and accountable, and consumers feel that complaints are worthwhile.
Pending NSW Fair Trading outing the names of property agents where they taken action, interested strata stakeholders can check the NSW Fair Trading Complaints Register where their some [but not all] details of complaints, outcomes and parties is publicly available here.
