I was tidying up some old strata stuff I had recently and found a very interesting analysis I prepared sometime ago for the National Community Titles Institute of Australia [the predecessor of Strata Community Association Australasia].
It was a national review and comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between the states strata laws covering a wide [but not exhaustive] range of strata building operational areas and details.Â
Called How Different are we? it was designed to help make strata titles more consistent around the country by doing a few things including:
Find out where things were the same.
Find out where things were different.
Try to discern why there were differences.
Help ascertain which approach was better.
Inform future law reform.
And, if it didn’t achieve or find consistency, at least it identified differences.
It was pretty good [even if I say so myself] and here’s a few sample of the analyses from the report.
But, it’s a bit outdated now [since it was from 2008]. However, strangely [and unsurprisingly] many things are still the same in many states.
And, it’s a shame it hasn’t been used much since then by anyone, or been kept updated by SCA.Â
Maybe, it’s time to redo it ... anyone, interested ?
