In NSW, they’ve decided to establish a set of standard designs for apartments and ‘modern’ terrace houses to be used in some parts of Sydney to fast-track planning approvals to help ease housing supply. It’s an approach that’s been used many times all over the world.
But, those designs must be good, and ideally excellent, to ensure that the quality and liveability of those future dwellings. So, in 2024, an international competition will be held to find 4 or 5 templates for each dwelling type.
I’m looking forward to seeing some of the great and innovative designs that get submitted [and perhaps a few that are a bit more controversial]. Plus, it’s great that architects get to design Sydney’s future housing.
