An [Independent?] Report about Australian & New Zealand Strata Title Insurance
In 2021, a detailed report was prepared by Dr Nicole Johnson of the Faculty of Business and Law at Deakin University about Australian and New Zealand strata insurance laws, practices and issues.
The report is cited as:
Johnston, N., Lee, A., Mishra, S., Powell, K., BowlerSmith, M and Zutshi, A. (2021) A data-driven holistic understanding of strata insurance in Australia and New Zealand. Deakin University
and you can find it here.
Over 226 pages, it covers the strata insurance environment, availability, affordability, cross state comparisons, the insurance supply chain, strata manager roles and services. strata manager charges and commissions, alternative models, and recommendations.
It’s an excellent review by @NicoleJohnson and important reading for anyone who’s serious about understanding strata insurance issues.
But, I’ll be featuring and highlights parts of the report progressively in case you don’t.
And, don’t call it independent as it includes the disclosure that the ‘report is based on research undertaken with funding from Strata Community Association (@SCA)’ which means its been paid for by a key stakeholder group with valuable commercial interests in the topic.
