In a short article by Reena van Aalst of Strata Central and Robert Van Aalst of Lawyers Central called This is Now, Don’t Squander the Opportunity they start to address what they think is wrong with the strata system at the moment and what needs to be done to address those things.
The article covers topics like the loss of trust in strata managers, the government’s responses via strata law changes, recent advserse media attention, poor [or non-existent] strata sector leadership, ‘big’ strata businesses sharp practices, manager qualification & education levels, the building management dark horse, and more.
The article also quotes many of the public figures from 2024 on those strata challenges.
And, they list a series of suggestions for improvements that could [or should] be made that most people would probably agree with.
Whilst many of the comments in the article are fair enough, I’m unsure that the premises on which they’re based are true or complete and that their conclusions [as far as I can discern them] are correct. I also feel that the threads of strata related causes, issues, motivations, goals, ideas and challenges haven’t been cohesively woven together. Plus, there’s a strong small business bias [or anti big business sentiment] in their themes.
So, it sounds like a bit of soapbox speaking to me.
But, I’m open [and look forward] to being convinced that I’m wrong.
Since the article is part 1 of a 3 part series, let’s see what Reena and Robert say next.
