A Million Dollar [Strata] Riff
or, a seven figure Strata Community Association success story …
A Quick Read
Strata is big business in Australia, with many organisations turning over millions of dollars. But, you might be surprised that one of those is Strata Community Association with its multi million dollar strata sponsorship riff as it collects money for all kinds of ‘opportunities’ from generous suppliers of goods and services for VIP status, conferences, golf days, networking events and even the biscuits at morning teas.
It’s all spoiling my memories of Shyhook’s classic song from the 1970s.

INTRODUCTION
How times have changed in Australia and strata title.
When I first heard Skyhooks’ song Million Dollar Riff in the 1970s, I dreamed of glamorous pop stars playing to screaming fans, VIP passes, crazy after parties, drugs, sex and rock & roll where all the millions of dollars were being spent and made.
Nowadays, I think of strata sector seminars, networking nights, conferences, and golf days when dreaming of those millions of dollars.
That’s because these days, running a strata association or group in Australia is a multi million dollar business, as 2024 - 2025 Strata Community Association sponsorships prove.
SCA’s 2025 SPONSORSHIP ‘OPPORTUNITIES’
At the various Strata Community Association member groups around Australia, there’s plenty that’s for sale.
So, if you’ve got a few spare strata dollars, you can spend them in a range of fun [and profitable] ways by checking out any one of the following sponsorship prospectuses [or is that prospectii ?] and making your payment.
Here are a few of this year’s bargains.
Gotta a spare $90K, why not become one of the eight SCA Queensland Platinum Partners for $86,800?
Only got $2K, then you can still pay for the biscuits at the SCA Western Australia state conference morning tea break for $1,650.
Maybe you’d like to credential yourself as a strata thinker by paying $10,000 for an SCA state conference keynote speaker.
Or, why not be the life of the party by funding conference entertainment for $7,800.
For a bit of strata ‘wokeness’, SCA Victoria can offer you sponsorship of the International Women’s Day event for $2,080, but you gotta share that with three other sponsors.
But, if you’re really really serious about spending some strata bucks, talk to SCA New South Wales for a private negotiation of sponsorship in that state, as they don’t publish a rate card … just an invitation to explore their opportunities.
It’s all for sale at SCA !!!
My summary of the total Strata Community Association sponsorships suggests that in 2024-2025, they will exceed $2.75 million.
AND, THE WINNERS ARE …
So, who are the big winners in the million dollar Strata Community Association sponsorship riff?
Drum roll …
It’s a close tie between SCA New South Wales and SCA Queensland for the state that earns the most sponsorship dollars [which I can’t precisely call as the exact sponsorship charges for NSW aren’t published], but they’re both collecting more than $1 million each per year.
And, the top strata sponsors are …
At number 1, Steadfast [via CHU and BCB], which is spending at least $375,000 this year.
Number 2 is Macquarie Bank, which is paying at least $250,000 this year.
And, the bronze medal goes to Grace Lawyers, spending at least $135,000 nationally this year.
A 70’s CLASSIC RE-IMAGINED
So, is it time to reimagine those Skyhooks’ 1970s song lyrics for this more modern strata idiom like this …
Million dollar riff Million dollar riff Million dollar riff
Million dollar riff Million dollar riff Million dollar riff
Well, there's a thousand strata buildings all over the land
And a thousand managers with 3 million strata fans
And just a few associations with their ears to the ground - Gimmee Gimmee
They're all lookin' for those suppliers with the million dollar sound
Million dollar riff Million dollar riff Million dollar riff
Goin' round and round
Million dollar riff Million dollar riff Million dollar riff
With a solid gold strata sound
CONCLUSIONS
Leaving aside how my comparison of SCA sponsorships and sponsors ruins my memories of 70’s Australian rock music, the million dollar strata riff at Strata Community Association is a revealing insight into what the largest Australian strata association is focused on and is, arguably, its most outstanding success story.
Should it be? Or, should SCA be focused on other, more important outcomes for their members?
I think I’ll just watch and listen to Shirley, Red, Bongo, and Starkie rock away whilst pretending I’m still living in the 70s.
