Every time you look up from the strata coal face, it looks like another Australian government is reviewing the management and operation of strata buildings.
This time it’s the Australian Capital Territory where they’re running an enquiry into the operation of the Unit Titles (Management) Act 2011 [their strata laws]. A kind of Capital Strata Enquiry.
The scope of the enquiry covers:
strata managers, including qualifications, licensing, conflicts of interest, fee models & other issues,
committee members, including responsibilities, training & skills,
decision making models
mixed-use buildings issues,
accessing environmental initiatives for strata residents,
a potential Strata Commissioner in the ACT, and
other related matters.
So far, there has been a public submission period that closed in March 2025.
Next, there’s going to be public hearings in early July 2025 that will be live web streamed.
So, it’ll be interesting to see what the submission said, who gives evidence, and what the ACT government does at the end of the process.
Any guesses on whether it’ll be more intra-state strata copy catting or there’ll actually be some innovative changes that will benefit strata citizens and other stakeholders?
